As part of the ONC's Strategic Health IT Advanced Research Projects (SHARP) program and the Substitutable Medical Apps Reusable Technologies (SMART) initiativeproject, a we have SMART-enabled i2b2 cell is being developed to expose a common API for SMART-applications to the i2b2 platform so that substitutable SMART applications (apps) can interact with health data within the i2b2 analytics platform.. We have created a new i2b2 cell ('the SMART cell') that exposes the SMART API for various types of data including medications, problems, lab results, vital signs, notes, etc. These functions return a common RDF/XML output in which SMART apps understand.
